It seemed a lot easier than the TS guess method. If you have a network printer that has XP install software, try it. I did not finish the XPM add a printer routine. When XPM came back up, I went to the Printer/Fax control panel and my HP 6310 printer was listed as my default printer. I did not use Win XP restart button and I was relieved to see that all it did was shutdown virtual PC XPM and then automatically restarted XPM. Not sure I wanted to shutdown my computer, I clicked "restart now" button on the HP software install When it finished, it said I needed to restart my computer to finish the install. It found my HP 6310 on my home network, it loaded the drivers and set it up. Stayed in XPM, Went to HP.COM (YAY HP) and ran their XP 6310 printer XP install from their site. I followed the instructions above but when I got to add the driver, the HP 6310 a network printer was not listed and I could not find my old HP XP disk to install it.

Unless we are talking about some monstrous IE6 ActiveX plugins that should simply be retired by now it should, most of the time, be possible to get them running in compatibility mode or with some manual tweaks (e.g. There are very few XP programs that cant be made to run on Windows 7. Here's how I connect an HP 6310 Officejet in XPM. XP mode should be an absolutely last resort and generally avoided if at all possible.
